Free for homeowners. Coming soon to iPhone and Android.

Reminder Taps off Oct 20 Before the frost

What FirstKey does

Everything about your home in one app, written in plain language.

Reminders at the right time

Pick what your home has. FirstKey sets the dates for Ontario's seasons, like outdoor taps off before the frost.

Every record in one place

Costs, bills, warranties, receipts and equipment. Bring in your hydro use with Green Button. Share a full home report when you sell.

Help when something breaks

Describe it or add a photo. Get do-it-yourself steps, a warranty check, or the right trade. Gas smells and floods get safety steps right away.

Weather alerts

Environment Canada warnings for your home's area, with what to do about them, like clearing snow off vents.

Emergency info

Where the water, gas and electrical shut-offs are, with photos. Your tenants and family can see it too.

A score for your house

One number for how your home is doing, and the few things that would raise it.

Bought a new build?

Ontario's new-home warranty from Tarion has deadlines that are easy to miss. Add your possession date and FirstKey reminds you before each form closes.

  1. 30-Day Form

Due in your first 30 days in the home.

  2. Year-End Form

Due in the last 30 days of your first year.

  3. Second-Year Form

Due in the last 30 days of your second year.

Keep a list of problems as you find them, so each form is quick to fill in. When something looks like a builder defect, the helper tells you to log it for the warranty before paying for a repair.

For landlords, tenants and local pros

One place for the people who look after a home.

Landlords

  • Invite tenants with a code
  • Get repair requests with photos
  • Send entry notices with at least 24 hours' warning, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., as Ontario's rules require
  • Message tenants and give them simple tasks

Tenants

  • Join with the code from your landlord
  • Send a repair request with a photo
  • See notices, messages and where the shut-offs are
  • Ask the helper what to try before calling

Pros and stores

  • Pros get bookings from homeowners nearby
  • Send "on the way" updates and invoices with HST
  • Stores post deals and redeem coupon codes in store
  • We check licence details before a pro is listed

Run a trade or a store?

Sign up in the FirstKey app under Account, then Business. Tell us your trade, the towns you serve and your licence, for example TSSA gas, 306A plumber or 309A electrician.

Ready for the bad day

Save where the main water shut-off, gas shut-off and electrical panel are, with a photo of each. Anyone in the home can find them fast.

Smell gas, fire or a CO alarm?

Get everyone out first. Then call 911, and your gas company, from outside. FirstKey helps you prepare. It doesn't replace 911.

Your information stays yours

  • Stored in Canada, in Montréal, and encrypted.
  • Never sold. No ads, and no tracking across other apps.
  • Stores never see your name or address.
  • A pro sees your address only for a job you book with them.
  • Photos lose their location data before they leave your phone.
  • Delete your account in the app at any time.

Help

Is FirstKey free?

Yes, for homeowners. Plans for landlords with several homes and for property managers are coming. You'll always see the price before you pay anything.

When can I get it?

FirstKey is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in screen, tap "Forgot password?". We email you a 6-digit code to set a new one.

My tenant's invite code doesn't work.

Each code works once. Ask your landlord to send a new invite from the Tenants tab.

I'm not getting reminders.

Check that notifications for FirstKey are on in your phone's settings. You can also pick a maintenance day in the app, so reminders come on the day that suits you.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Account, then Privacy & security, then Delete my account. See what gets deleted.
